Just a couple of things for now:
- Before 2011, I’ll be shutting down this domain, and moving my portfolio to my main site or closing it.
- I’ve become enamored by DIY fabric printing on Spoonflower.
Just a couple of things for now:
I think there are a lot of good points out there about no spec work, and how not paying a contractor does more damage than you might initially expect.
I recently saw a Craig’s List posting in search of a photographer for a family portrait at the client’s home, and the potential client asked why it had to cost more than the 50 or 60 dollars it would cost as a studio in the mall.
I know why this is so, other trained professionals know why, but the client doesn’t know why. So often clients on Craig’s List are treated very abrasively when they ask for spec, or cheap work. There should be some way to increase awareness and education about conducting business in general – nobody should be made to feel foolish. Why embarrass and insult a potential client when you could simply send them a form letter or news article that helps lay out the bigger picture? Perhaps they can’t afford to act on their project now, but giving them a way to plan and prepare might increase the odds that they will become a better (and happier) client later.
An interesting collection of articles with commentary on working on spec.
This is an extremely handy website!
When I was in college, I received a scholarship from the Pride Foundation. Every year but one since, thanks to the Pride Foundation and the GSBA, I have participated in Seattle’s Pride Parade. Below is a sampling of photos I’ve taken at this year’s event.
If you are a non-profit community, organization, charity involved in Gay, Lesbian, Transgender, Bisexual, Pro-sexual health categories, or are depicted in any specific photo, you may use the images! All uses in all media require a photo credit. Resizing, color correction, and cropping permitted, please do not otherwise alter the images without written permission. The original full set of web ready and higher resolution images can be found at this link (click) (65 MB zip file), bonus photos specific to the GSBA and the Pride Foundation at this link (click) (30 MB zip file).
On May 6th I will be having minor surgery to repair damage from an old surgery. Expect not to hear at all from me in May!
Those of you here from SXC looking for permissions for stock use, my requests are non-profit usage only, minor advertising (local newspapers, non-profit businesses), you must include a credit line, and please Email Me me a copy of the final work (I love to see what you’ve done with it!), if the project you have meets these requirements, go ahead and use it. When I get back, I’ll evaluate requests any for-profit or identity usage requests.
A nice little list for keeping on track when designing a logo.
Welcome to the new portfolio website! I’ve re-worked things a bit!
